For this month at our Glencoe B&B accommodation with pets allowed…Howard wants to put in his report. He wants to show that he is a hard-working cat and deserves his gourmet cat food.
Howard: concierge, pest controller and general supervisor.
It has been a busy month with guests. It has been cold with fires going. I have been making myself available for tummy rubs by the fire most mornings.
I have managed to sneak into the lounge room five times and slept on the couch so guests can pat me, which is what happens at any accommodation with pets allowed, I guess.
Unfortunately, the couch had to be vacuumed because of the fur I left but that’s a small price to pay for me to be around.
My photo bombing rate is at about 80 percent. That’s good but will try for more. Now the weather is better I am greeting guests and going for walks with them while looking at the animals.
I sit on the front step to farewell guests when it’s not raining and get goodbye pats, which I like. I do love a good chin scratch.
I don’t like those swallows that are nesting at the front door and dive bomb me. I have been working hard on pest control, which takes up much of my time. I have a big area to patrol.
Mice and rat season hasn’t hit yet. I haven’t caught any the past few weeks, but there is no hay in the barns at the moment, and none that I can see around the chicken and duck houses.
I am continuing surveillance. Rabbits – my count for last month is six, but I expect that to increase. Bossman is not happy with me bringing in one during breakfast, but I catch them when I catch them.
I have found two new rabbit holes down the back driveway that I am watching closely. Last year rabbits ate all of Bossman’s vegetable garden – I will not let that happen again.
There are so many birds…but they don’t cause too many problems, so I’m not worried about them. I do catch some and bring them in for show and tell so they know I am clever, but I don’t hurt them.
My people aren’t happy when I let them go in the house and they have to catch them. I think it’s funny.
There were fewer bandicoots this year, I don’t know why. I caught one several years ago but, was told to leave them alone because they are native animals. So, now I just watch them.
They mainly come out at night, and I’m not allowed out at night time.
I am busy supervising the cleaning girls, I will often check that the showers have been cleaned properly, but I’m not allowed to jump on the beds. They get upset if I do especially if they have just made the bed.
I had to check on Robert, the gardener. He was replacing some plants around the pond. I checked all the boxes and bags to ensure no plants were missed.
He did a good job, so I didn’t leave him a surprise package in the garden. The dog has been well-behaved – he follows me around.
The free-roaming ducks are well-behaved, so I don’t bother about them. The chickens have also been relatively well-behaved; they haven’t done too much damage in the garden.
I’m not fond of chickens. I think they’re scary, and I don’t trust them. I think they are planning something.
Hank Rooster seems decent, so I will need to discuss with him about keeping his girls in line.
It’s been a busy month at our guesthouse accommodation with pets allowed, but now the weather is improving it’s just going to get busier. I will be submitting a proposal for more cat food because I will be working longer hours.
